About  For a choral conductor, true artistic growth requires more than just score study—it demands a space to refine your gesture, sharpen your rehearsal efficiency, and engage in high-level musical dialogue.  This July, the HKBU Academy of Music invites experienced conductors, music educators, and advanced practitioners to an intensive, transformative residency at our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility. 


Meet our Artist Teachers

Dr. Jamie Hillman, Elmer Iseler Chair in Conducting & Associate Professor & Associate Professor, Faculty of Music, University of Toronto


Dr. Jamie Hillman is a distinguished Canadian American conductor, educator, and musician. He holds the Elmer Iseler Chair in Conducting at the University of Toronto, where he directs choral studies and leads the MacMillan Singers. A Senior Fellow at Massey College, he has received the Faculty of Music Teaching Award for excellence in education.  

As an active guest conductor and adjudicator, Dr. Hillman has worked with ensembles across North America, Asia, and Europe, including performances at Carnegie Hall. He has premiered works by leading composers and adjudicated for prestigious competitions worldwide.  

As a tenor, he has performed major choral orchestral works and sung with renowned ensembles like the Elmer Iseler Singers and Toronto Mendelssohn Singers. His scholarly and pedagogical contributions include published articles and choral arrangements.  

Dr. Hillman holds degrees from Western University, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Boston University. A 2012 Ontario Arts Council laureate, he was inducted into Western University’s Alumni Wall of Fame in 2024. His upcoming engagements include international residencies and guest conducting. 

Dr. Po-Kwan Law, Senior Lecturer, Academy of Music, Hong Kong Baptist University


A conductor and pianist born in Hong Kong, Dr. Law Po-Kwan is a senior lecturer at the HKBU Academy of Music and the conductor of Cantoría Hong Kong and Polymnia. Dr. Law has been a sought-after guest conductor, adjudicator, choral and orchestral clinician, frequently invited to collaborate as a guest conductor with numerous academic and professional chorus and orchestra, such as the Oberlin College Choir, San Francisco Conservatory Baroque Ensemble, Illinois Chamber Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra Chorus, and more.  

  

Dr. Law received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she was the recipient of the Schuetz H. Warren Memorial Scholarship for conducting and teaching excellence. Under the auspices of the Dean’s Talent Award, and the generosity of the Conservatory scholarships, she holds three master's degrees from Berlin Conservatory of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign respectively.

    • Ideal for aspiring choral conductors, choir singers, music educators, and students with interest in choral conducting

    • Basic score-reading ability is desired

Tuition Fee

  • Conducting Fellow: HK$4,600 

  • Observer: HK$2,200


Application Deadline: 30 June 2026

Participants are responsible for their own transportation and meals. 


Tuition fee is due only after successful audition and acceptance.
