About

This 6-day programme is our first collaborative partnership with Guildhall Young Artists, the junior division of the renowned Guildhall School of Music & Drama. We invite young woodwinds, brass, and percussion musicians worldwide to join. Participants will develop their artistry in a supportive, high-energy environment shaped by world-class training.

Our programme offers wind orchestra and chamber music experiences, complemented by technique and sectional classes. Participants will receive individual support, guidance, and feedback to enhance their musical skills. The course culminates in a performance, showcasing the repertoire we have studied and providing an opportunity to share our progress with an audience.

Meet our Artist Teachers

Spencer Down, Creative Director, Guildhall Young Artists Conductor & Brass Coordinator, Junior Guildhall, Guildhall School of Music & Drama

Spencer is the Creative Director of Guildhall Young Artists and conductor at Junior Guildhall where he heads up the brass department.

Spencer works with producers and promoters across all genres of music including classical, rock & pop, and film. Honoured to be entrusted with Roy Budd's score to the 1925 classic silent film Phantom of the Opera, he conducted the premiere at London's Coliseum and subsequent performance at the Barbican.

In 2012 Spencer received the Freedom of the City of London for his services to music.

Since graduating in 2009, Fraser has enjoyed a successful and wide-ranging freelance career where he appears regularly as guest principal oboe and cor anglais with ensembles across the UK, extending his work into both symphonic and chamber orchestral settings and appearing on numerous film scores.

Alongside his performing career, Fraser is increasingly active as a conductor and educator. At Guildhall, he conducts the Symphonic Wind Orchestra and frequently coaches wind and brass sectionals across the school and with amateur ensembles across the country.
